Walking Meditation / Using QiGong

By Sister Nona

I have read the various instructions with great interest. Personally, I have used walking meditation as an extension of qigong, to the greatest benefit, addressing as I go the spirit guides of the five (really six) directions. In Michael Winn's system, these begin with Tiger, spirit in Dao of the Western quadrant of the universe, from here to infinity:
white, metal, autumn; lungs and pulmonary system, the belly full of courage; casting out all grief and regret, casting out disease from the entire oxidation (thus energy) system of the body and all the creatures in one's field.

Then one addresses Bear, spirit in Dao of the Northern quadrant of the universe, from here to infinity: ice blue, ocean, water, winter; kidneys and urinary system, as well as reproductive system, the kidneys cleansed and the belly full of wisdom, casting out fear and dread, washing it away.

Thirdly, one turns to the East, to Deer, patron of the eastern cosmos from here to infinity, in Dao. Bright spring green, forest, wind, freshening the liver and biliary system, renewing them, and filling one's belly with benevolence toward all beings, letting anger,
irritability, grudges, simply blow away, falling off like dead leaves, to nourish the Earth.

Then we turn our faces to the South, as did the sages of yore, and to the Great Crane, patron of the southern cosmos, from here to infinity, in Dao. She is summer, scarlet, fire, and is patron of the heart and circulatory system, burning away obstruction and pollution from heart, veins, arteries, cleansing with her fire, and filling the MIDDLE dan tien with serenity, burning away self-judgment, self-loathing,
self-absorption.

[Not all of this is from Winn; much is from experience, especially what follows.]

The fifth direction is downward, to the center of the earth and beyond, from here to the farthest reaches of the cosmos, in Dao. Its patron is Monkey, whom I visualize as a capuchin monkey on my shoulder, and address as such. She is the patron of the spleen and the entire immune system, so vital to health, and her color is yellow, her element curiously is the sun. She fills our belly with balance, and releases anxiety, fills us with "now", releasing yesterday and tomorrow.

Sixth direction is therefore straight up, and its patron may be Butterfly, or it may be Egg -- that enormous single cell containing all potential. Its color may be rainbow, or I think more likely violet, and it governs the brain, the nervous system, and the marrow of the bones. Through its patronage, from here to eternity, we are enabled to release the human mentality and to ingest -- through the very fontanel itself, in the form of violet mist -- the Mind of Dao, which cleanses and rectifies, organically and over time, the trillions of nerve cells that pervade our bodies and the bodies of those connected to us.

These spirit guides are real and living and are friends, masters, teachers, protectors. At first I thought they were merely projections, but if that is the case I must be infinitely more intelligent than
anyone ever would have suspected! LOL!
