Meditation Notes by Nate

When it is time to relax, and I have made the decision to do so, I begin by closing my eyes.

Taking 3 slow deep 'belly' breaths, I run my finger through my hair once or twice, and over my neck and shoulders to help get my engery mobile. I find that I can do this sitting in my office chair, standing in line, sitting in lotus, laying in the dark, even just crouching down for a look at something.

Upon opening my eyes, I look around for something natural. A plant, an insect, an animal, a ray of light, a cloud, a mound of earth, a rock, or, barring all of that, a picture of one of these things. Sometimes I can even use another human animal. I picture them as if this were a National Geographic show, and I am learning their habits, observing their movements and studying their gestures.

Once I have found what I am searching for, I simply bask in its beauty. I imagine all the complex processes that went into creating this object. I imagine all the time that has been spent perfecting its shape. I imagine the same object all over the world. At the same time I marvel at its relative insignificance while always understanding its irreplacable importance.

As you can tell it is usually quite easy for me to relax, so this may not work for everyone.
