The Wenzi (Wen Tzu) and The Liezi (Lieh Tzu) are considered to be important Daoist texts, and some put them on a par with Laozi and Zhuangzi. It has been suggested that Wenzi studied directly under Laozi, and that Liezi was a student of Wenzi. There is definitely a connection between these texts, as the ideas of Laozi flow through both the Wenzi and the Liezi. WENZI > Wen-Tzu (Understanding the Mysteries), Thomas Cleary Many of the chapters include ideas put forth in the Dao De Jing. (Cleary’s translation is the only one available in English at this time.) LIEZI > Lieh-Tzu (A Taoist Guide to Practical Living), Eva Wong Eva Wong hasn’t written a literal translation of the Liezi, but has put the stories into her own words. Some have criticized her book for this fact. A. C. Graham has written a more literal translation of Liezi, but I haven’t read it. Wong’s book is delightful nonetheless. ![]() Dao Is Open Site Map | Laozi | Zhuangzi | Wenzi and Liezi | Misc. Ancient Texts | Yi Jing | Misc.
