Rarely are words spoken naturally. A strong wind doesn't last all morning. A sudden rainfall doesn't last all day. Who can act like these manifestations of the universe, and be able to easily let go of what's happening? Can this be done with strong words that come from a person? Therefore, follow along with the daily routine, But remember: One who senses Dao fits together with Dao. One who senses De fits together with De. One who senses loss fits together with their loss. If one fits together with De, Dao will also provide them De. If one fits together with loss, Dao will also provide them loss. ![]() Commentary: 23 ~ Being Honest -Rarely are words spoken naturally. What are "natural" words? The Chinese term used here is ZiRan, which refers to what naturally arises spontaneously without motivations. Most words aren't spoken naturally or spontaneously, but are filtered through a person's ideas of how they wish to be perceived by others, or depend on what they want to get from others. ![]() -A strong wind doesn't last all morning. -A sudden rainfall doesn't last all day. Observing the forces of Nature, it's apparent that things are constantly changing. Even the greatest natural disasters don't last forever. Whether it's an earthquake, flood, drought or tsunami, things eventually settle back down again. -Who can act like these manifestations of the universe, and be able to easily let go of what's happening? -Can this be done with strong words that come from a person? People tend to get so involved in their emotions that they can hold on to them for a long time. Resentment, anger, frustration, etc. can seem like a thunderstorm that comes from nowhere. Those kinds of erruptions occur in Nature all the time. When there’s stress, the earth releases it, and then all is calm once again. Sometimes we keep harboring those emotional storms within us because we're afraid of unleashing them honestly and naturally - like a thunderstorm that will quickly dissipate. We've been told our whole lives that we shouldn't express any uncomfortable emotions we're feeling, but that we should keep silent so we wouldn’t be bothering anyone else with them. Bottling up emotions like that can only lead to more troubles - due to the stress we don’t release and the eventual destruction we can cause others when the lid finally flies off the boiling pot. Do you exect others to keep a calm exterior all the time - no matter what they might be feeling inside? Then do you get upset when their emotions come pouring out like a frightening thunderstorm? The strong and harsh words that come from others - and from you - are usually the result of pent up emotions that weren’t allowed to be released naturally as they were felt. And those strong, harsh words don’t cure anything. They just bring on more unpleasant emotions. -Therefore, follow along with the daily routine, -But remember: -One who senses Dao fits together with Dao. -One who senses De fits together with De. -One who senses loss fits together with their loss. As we go through the course of our day, rhere are bound to be things that happen which tick us off. If you try to hold in those emotions all day, you’ll probably release them in a much bigger way, and often at those who weren’t responsible for them. Little thunderstorms can release the tension, and as long as your words are sincere they won’t cause gaping wouds in those you say them to. If you keep in mind the process of Dao, you’ll see that nothing in the universe is without occasional tension. Fitting in with that process can give you many more sincere smiles than outlandish rages. If you keep in mind the nature of De in human beings, and how we each have to work within the scope of our own abilities, there would be fewer things that would tick you off. If you prefer to go through each day looking at whatever happens as a situation in which you might have a potential loss, then all you’ll see is series of losses. -If one fits together with De, Dao will also provide them De -If one fits together with loss, Dao will also provide them loss. The process of Dao is like an energy force that’s within everything and nourishes everything. It's only when people try to go against the natural flow going on within them and outside of them that things become rough and ragged. When you accept and adapt to what's coming naturally from within you, the process of Dao will work with you.. When you accept and adapt to your own sense of loss, the process of Dao will surround you with losses. You see, Dao doesn’t distinguish between what’s good and bad. People do that. We all have choices. Which will you choose? Alternate translation: People don’t usually say what’s really on their minds. Some strong winds can come up suddenly, but they don’t last for long. Rain can start falling on a sunny day, but it can go away as quickly as it came. Wouldn’t it be cool if people could let their emotions fall away as easily? Can you let people get things off their chest then let go of it? Lots of stuff happens during the course of a day. Watch it happen, but remember..... What’s happening around you is simply happening around you. What’s happening inside of you is simply happening inside of you. If you feel like you’re missing out on something, you won’t be able to shake the feeling of missing out on something. If you don’t fight what’s happening inside of you, it’ll do its thing and drift off eventually. If you keep feeling like you’re missing out on something, that’s what you’ll find everywhere you look. ![]() Dao Is Open Site Map | BY: Nina | Guodian Laozi | DDJ Concordance | Comparisons | Who was Laozi | | Return Home | Laozi's Dao De Jing | Your Dao De Jing | Zhuangzi (Chuang Tzu) | Links | Meditation | Dao (Tao) is Open Forum | Book List | Other Stuff | |
